Living in a smart home on vacation: how Casa Muliix works
The first question almost every guest asks when arriving at Casa Muliix is the same one: “does everything really run by voice?”. Yes. But it’s worth explaining what that actually means in practice, because “smart home” can sound like a marketing promise until you’ve lived it for a couple of days.

What Alexa controls (and what it doesn’t)
At Casa Muliix, Alexa controls the lights, air conditioning, fans, TV, and music throughout the house —even the dishwasher is automated. It’s not a decorative gadget in a corner: it’s the normal way to run the house during your stay. You get back after a day walking under the Mérida sun, ask for the bedroom A/C to turn on before you arrive, and it’s already cool when you open the door.
The solar panels (and why electricity isn’t included)
Casa Muliix has solar panels, and that has a practical consequence we prefer to explain upfront, no fine print: electricity isn’t included in the base rate. You’re only charged for the extra consumption beyond what the panels generate. A photo of the meter is taken at check-in and check-out, the difference in kWh is calculated, and that number is multiplied by 3.5 pesos —that’s the amount owed for this. With normal A/C use (not running all day with doors open), actual consumption tends to be modest.

What if I’m not a tech person?
You don’t need to be. The house works perfectly with regular switches if you’d rather ignore Alexa altogether —automation is an option, not a requirement. Most of our guests start skeptical and end up asking Alexa to turn everything off before bed without even noticing.
Who this house is for
Casa Muliix has capacity for 6 people (4 in two bedrooms, 2 more on a sofa bed), 200m2, and sits one block from Paseo Montejo —practically the same location as the Fiesta Americana. It’s the right house if you want the comfort of a luxury hotel but with your own kitchen, a private pool, and the novelty of controlling the entire house with your voice.
